Start with the decision, not the slide count
For an investor pitch, a product introduction and an internal strategy review, the useful first question is the same: what should the audience understand or do afterwards? Put that outcome in your brief, together with the audience, the setting and the evidence you have.
Attach relevant source material and identify the facts that must stay unchanged. A plan can organise a narrative; it cannot make an unsupported market estimate or customer result true.
Make the story before you make the slides
Review the creative plan
Check the proposed pages, visual direction, image requests and image-credit cost. Refine the brief before approving the build.
Keep evidence editable
Use chart and table layers for figures you need to update. Pair each important result with its units, period and source. Use a metric block for a single result and a comparison for genuine alternatives.
Give each page one job
Move from context to evidence to a decision. Use a section opening, a visual explanation and a quiet closing page to create rhythm without filling every page with the same grid.
Choose the right kind of slide
You can add editable layers over image artwork, but doing so does not make the lettering inside that artwork individually editable. Choose the approach page by page according to the work you need to do.
| Need | A useful starting point |
|---|---|
| Changing copy, data or diagrams | Editable layers: text, shapes, tables and charts stay separate. |
| An art-directed opening or visual campaign | An image edition: lettering and artwork become one image, revised through an approved image-editing plan. |
| A deck someone will continue editing | Editable layers and a PowerPoint export, followed by a check in the recipient's presentation app. |
Before the room sees it
- Check every claim against its source and replace all example values.
- Preview the deck at the audience's likely screen size; keep chart labels and body text readable.
- Rehearse the sequence and speaker notes. Test fullscreen, audio and any embedded video in the actual presentation browser.
- Review the exported file after opening it. A browser presentation, PDF and editable PowerPoint serve different purposes.
